Troy Matthews Obituary

Troy Dell Matthews, Sr. was born on January 6, 1964 in Eugene, Oregon to Oliver and Junia (West) Matthews. He passed away on November 14, 2025 in Salem, Oregon.

Troy attended Monroe High School in California and then went on to serve in the United States Air Force. He was part of the 43rd maintenance squadron and part of the 416th Fighter Squadron. He was also part of the 4450th Tactical Group. Troy participated in Operation Desert Storm to aid in the liberation of Kuwait. He was awarded medals from the Saudi Arabian government.

Troy and Sharon met on a blind date in 1987. He was in the military on leave and was stationed in Guam when they met. They were married in July 1988 in Chatsworth, California. Sharon and Troy lived in Guam for six months of his tour. They then relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada. Sharon and Troy were married for 37 years.

Because of Troy's experience in the Air Force, he worked as a Maintenance electrician/engineer in the healthcare industry. He loved Fantasy Football and poker. Troy loved camping, hunting, and fishing, particularly on the McKenzie River. He truly loved the outdoors. Troy and Sharon loved traveling to Las Vegas and Reno together.

Troy would do anything for anyone; he would even give the shirt off his back. He volunteered his time transporting veterans to their doctors appointments, etc., which he did for many years. He had a dry humor, but a great sense of humor. He often said, "Hey, man." Another saying Troy would say to his kids was, "Don't ever run with your hands in your pockets," "Watch your fingers," and "Make sure it's done right the first time." His favorite football teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Oregon Ducks. His favorite baseball team was the LA Dodgers.

Others should remember that Troy was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He was willing to do anything for his family, friends, and coworkers and often put himself second. Troy was very patient and very loyal. He would help anyone and never complained. Troy could fix anything. He would never start anything unless he was fully knowledgeable about the subject.

Troy is survived by his wife, Sharon Matthews; his son, Troy D. Matthews, Jr; his daughters, Margaret Matthews and Emmilee Rayas; four grandchildren, Chloe Sharon Matthews, Claire Tatyana Matthews, Troy D. Matthews, III, and Maisie Nichole Rayas; his sister, Tina Matthews; his mother, Junia Eardley; and his stepfather, Raymond Eardley.
