Starting from the humble beginnings of shining shoes at the age of 10, he progressed through various roles, from a box boy to a manager at Safeway grocery stores. He later acquired Manor Market, Big Pine Market, Chalfant Mercantile, a hay ranch in Fish Lake Valley, Nevada, and Manor True Value Hardware. His business acumen led him to simplify his endeavors later in life, focusing solely on Manor Market.
Troy was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Bishop and contributed significantly to the community, including participating on the board that built the Methodist community building. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and gardening. He found great joy in hosting barbecues with live music for dancing, a favorite pastime he shared with his beloved wife, Susie.
