Troy Phillips Obituary

Troy Lynn Phillips, 69, passed away on March 5, 2026.

He was born on July 13, 1956, Troy spent his entire life in the Vesuvius area, a place he deeply loved and proudly called home.

Troy was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Wallace and Evelyn; his granddaughters, McKinley Braxton and Bailey Walker, who finally got to meet their Paw; his sister, Gloria Jean Allen and her husband Kay; his brother-in-law, Don Cash; and his sister-in-law, Gloria Jean Phillips.

Those left behind to celebrate his life and the promise of his mind and body being made new again include his son, Greg Phillips and wife Courtney, and their children Casey, Sydney, and Brody; his daughter, Tabitha Luke and husband Chris, and their children Calum and Aria; and his special friend, Ann Terrell, with whom he shared so much time and friendship.

He is also survived by his siblings: Euley Phillips and his friend Virginia; Shirley Cash; Lenny Phillips and his wife Linda; and Marlene Phillips, along with many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Troy was blessed with special family and friends who stood by him until the end, including Shorty Phillips and Timmy Cash, along with countless others whom he thought the world of.

Troy loved the Vesuvius community and the people in it. Because of that love, his family will celebrate his life in a way he would have enjoyed most - surrounded by family, friends, laughter, and good food.

Family and friends are invited to a cookout and family reunion-style gathering at the Vesuvius Community Building (53 Tye Pine Avenue, Vesuvius, VA 24483) on Sunday from 4:00–7:00 PM. Food will be provided, but those who wish are welcome to bring a dish that reminds them of something Troy loved. Everyone will gather to eat together at 5:00 PM. Guests are welcome to stop by briefly or stay the entire time. Casual dress is encouraged so everyone can simply enjoy the day Troy helped create for those who loved him. Those planning to stay awhile are encouraged to bring their own chair and a beverage of their choice to help celebrate Troy in the relaxed way he would have enjoyed.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Vesuvius Baptist Church with Reverend Howard Pendley. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM.

Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Steeles Tavern.

Serving as pallbearers will be Casey, Brody, Ty, and Kevin Phillips, Calum Luke, and Anthony Allen. Troy will be remembered for his love of family, his friendships, and the deep roots he planted in the Vesuvius community he never left. His legacy lives on in the family, friends, and memories that will continue to gather together just as he always loved.

The family would like to thank the staff of The Regency at Augusta, ACG, and his aide, L’Oreal Montgomery, for their kindness, care, and support. Their compassion meant a great deal to him and to the family.
