Troy (Erik) Steen (1979-2025)

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the tragic passing of Troy Erik Steen, beloved husband to Sarah, father, and friend. Erik, age 45, of Eagle Mountain, Utah, died in American Fork, Utah on January 5th, 2025.

Erik was born on February 22nd, 1979, in Ogden, Utah. His parents, Roy and Anne Steen, raised Erik to be kind, gentle, and caring, and taught him to live life to the fullest. Erik grew up in Kearns and later moved to Dutch John, Utah, where he graduated from Manila High School. He was born to serve.

In 1997, Erik joined the Utah Army National Guard, where he served a total of 26 years of National Guard service (20 years Active Duty). In his early adult years, Erik attended Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and worked for both the Dagget County Sheriff's Department and the Weber County Jail. Erik began working full-time for the National Guard in 2006 and served three mobilizations overseas.

He adopted his eldest daughter, Lillyanna, in 2008.

Erik first met Sarah in 2013, when she transferred to his National Guard unit. Fate brought them together, and they were married on May 10th, 2016. Like finding the missing piece of a puzzle, life seemed to fall into place after that. Erik and Sarah traveled and experienced many adventures together, but Erik's greatest joy was the three beautiful children they had together - Hunter (7), Hayden (6), and Maverik (5), who adored him.

He loved animals and had several unique pets of his own - many of his work friends will always remember his beloved bulldog, Fiona, who often accompanied him in the office.

Erik is survived by his parents, siblings Lise (Jeremy) and Coby (Jessica), and his nieces and nephews. He had many friends who he considered family, and they formed inseparable bonds throughout his military service. The Sunday brunches with Darren, Chris, Nate, and Drea, along with the annual Veteran's Day breakfast with Phill and Craig, will never be the same without him.

Erik will always be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit, his easy-going manner and dry sense of humor, and desire to serve his country. His military awards include a Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (3 oak leaf clusters), Good Conduct Medals, and over 20 other medals and achievement ribbons.

We couldn't have asked for a more loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend, and we will miss Erik every day. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Erik's memorial service will be: Friday, January 17th at 11am

Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park ,17111 South Camp Williams Road

Bluffdale, UT 84065
