Trudy Loveland Conover, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on February 10, 2026, in
Wheeling, West Virginia, where she lived for the last 29 years. Born on September 8, 1938, in
Camden, New Jersey, Trudy lived a life full of adventure, service, and love.
Trudy dedicated much of her professional life to social services, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and dedication. She also served with pride in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, embodying her deep sense of patriotism and commitment to community service.
Her passions were as diverse as they were vibrant. Trudy was an avid camper and traveler, always eager to explore new places and enjoy the beauty of nature. She found great joy in visiting lakes, gardening, and spending time outdoors. She especially enjoyed visiting lakes as she was an avid and award winning swimmer Her love for the arts was evident in her delight in watching her granddaughters perform in the symphony on ice. Trudy also had a keen eye for fashion and a love for dancing, which brought her much happiness throughout her life.
Trudy was a trailblazer, becoming the first and youngest female speed boat racer in
Blackwood, NJ. Her adventurous spirit and determination were an inspiration to many. She was an active member of the Wheeling Red Hat Society, the Wilderness League of Ohio County, and the New Life Assembly of God, where she formed lasting friendships and contributed to her community.
Trudy was preceded in death by her father, Leon Albert Conover; her mother, Consolotta Barbieri Conover; and her brother, Leonard Michael Conover. She is survived by her devoted partner and husband of 44 years, Charles Heffelfinger; her loving children, Angela Tacchetti of
BelAir, MD, Towanda Marrero of
Wheeling, WV, Connie (Dennis) Matlock of
Wheeling, WV, Vincent (Terri) Quinn of
Elmer, NJ, and Donna Quinn of
Zephyrhills, FL; her cherished stepdaughters, Lori (John) Hyslip of NH, Syrena (Bret) Carver of
Hornell, NY, and Regina (David) Altruder of
Wayland, MA; and her dear sister, Teresa Borden of NY.
Trudy's legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Jordan (Desi), Christopher (Leeann), Shawn (Mercedes), Aspen, Holland (Nick), Shanna, Carissa, Rocky (Danielle), John (Morgan), Eric, Morgan, Abigail, Mark, and Lili, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Trudy Loveland Conover will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her unwavering love for her family, and her dedication to serving others. Her life was a testament to the power of kindness, courage, and love. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
