Trudy Ann Gamache, 91, was born in Flasher, North Dakota on July 26, 1930, to Adam and Bertha Schmidt, and passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on July 22, 2022, in Yakima, Washington.
Trudy was an amazing woman, wife, mother, Nana and Nana-Nana. Her life was full of sharing and caring, and she had an endless love of giving. Don & Trudy had six children, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. After moving to Yakima in 1944, Trudy attended St. Paul's grade school and then graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1949. In her junior year she met Don Gamache, and they both fell head over heels in love. Surrounded by family and friends they were married on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1950.
They first farmed hops with Don's dad in Moxee and began their family. Don and Trudy then moved to Grandview, Washington, before moving back to Moxee in 1956, to grow hops and their family on the homestead, as Don Gamache Farms, until they retired in 1996. Bruce and Tim continued the family tradition with B&T Gamache Farms.
During their 48 years together, when not farming, there were many unforgettable trips with friends to hop conventions and the annual summer beach trips to Long Beach, Washington. Don and Trudy relished time with family and friends and enjoyed traveling, both nationally and internationally. Trudy especially enjoyed their many trips to Hawaii.
Trudy loved gardening, spending many hours in her beautiful yard tending to her flowers. She treasured taking photos of her family, nature, and birds. Her creative eye and love of art was evident in her notes, cards, crafts, and artwork, which she shared with family and friends. Trudy was an avid sports fan, especially the Mariners. She also took great joy in being a homemaker, hosting holiday gatherings for the entire family. Trudy was a true nurturer, loved adventure, had a sharp sense of humor and an ever-present twinkle in her eye.
With Don's death, in May of 1998, Trudy moved to Yakima, to her condo at Summitview Country. During this time, she continued to enjoy time with her ever expanding family and traveling with many of her closest friends. The past five years Trudy resided at Fieldstone Orchard West Assisted Living.
Trudy is survived by her sister, Franny Roberts, and children, Danette Hester (Doug), Kennewick, Bruce Gamache (Christine), Moxee, David Gamache (Angie), Lake Stevens, Kathy Hopkins (Brian), Yakima, Tim Gamache (Cec), Moxee, and her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald, her son, Stan and daughter-in-law, Jackie Gamache, her parents and 11 brothers and sisters.
A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 5:00pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church (201 N. Iler St., Moxee WA 98936), with a Recitation of the Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday July 28, 2022 at 10:00am at Holy Rosary Church, with a luncheon reception immediately following in the Parish Hall. A private interment will be at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
The family would like to acknowledge and extend our sincere thanks for the care and friendship she received at Fieldstone Senior Living, and to the staff at the Cottage in the Meadow. Trudy greatly loved a beautiful flower arrangement, but in lieu of flowers, donations made to Holy Rosary Cemetery may be sent in care of Brookside Funeral Home. Brookside Funeral Home is caring for the family. Memories and condolences may be shared at www.brooksidefuneral.com.
