Truett Wayne Briggs passed away peacefully Sunday October 8, 2023 in Columbia, Maryland, at 85 years of age. He successfully fought Mantle Cell Lymphoma for several years, and passed after a short illness.

Truett was born October 26, 1937 in Kingsville, Texas, to Ross and Frances Briggs. He was the oldest of four children, and was preceded in death by his sister Mary and brother William. Truett was a proud Texan, spending most of his youth in San Antonio. He completed his undergraduate degree at Baylor University, and his Masters degree in Social Work at The University of Texas at Austin. He met and went on to marry Henrietta Miller Briggs, after service in the US Army brought him to Maryland. After returning to Texas for a short time, Truett and Henrietta settled in Bowie, Maryland, where they raised their family and remained married for nearly 62 years until he passed. He spent his professional career serving the District of Columbia Department of Human Services, and took pride as an effective manager, and proponent of using technology to better serve community needs. In his retirement, Truett found joy and purpose as a ski instructor. He had a genuine curiosity about people, and in his teaching role, loved to learn peoples’ stories and to help them develop new skills. He traveled often with his ski buddies, and was always keen to explore new places.

Truett enjoyed reading, music, cooking for his family, and usually was working on a few house projects. He had a passion for genealogy, and spent considerable time researching and documenting the history of the Briggs family.

Truett was a loving father and grandfather. He devotedly supported his children and grandchildren, and took great pride in their accomplishments. He is survived by his wife Henrietta Briggs, of Bowie, Maryland, sons David Briggs, of Boonsboro, Maryland and Daniel Briggs, of Bowie, Maryland, daughter Elizabeth Briggs Jenkins, of Clarksville, Maryland, grandchildren Caitlin Briggs and Grace Briggs, Claire Jenkins and Eleanor Jenkins, and by his brother Thomas Briggs, of Redmond, Washington

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to The Lymphoma Research Foundation or The Wounded Warrior Project
