Tyler Cavanagh Obituary

Tyler McQuillan Cavanagh was born on December 5, 1990, and grew up in Port St. John, Florida. For the past ten years, he made his home in Norfolk, Virginia.

He proudly served in the United States Navy beginning in 2009, where he found not only a career but a brotherhood that shaped him for life. Tyler rose through the ranks with determination and grit, ultimately achieving the title of Chief Petty Officer, a mark of respect, leadership, and service that he carried with great pride. Over the course of his career, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, multiple Navy Achievement Medals, and other commendations recognizing his dedication and excellence.

Tyler was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and a natural mechanic. If it had an engine, he wanted to take it apart, rebuild it, and make it go faster and louder. There may some extra pieces but that never stopped him. He loved the Navy and the brotherhood that came with it, and he loved his family, his wife, his son, his siblings, and his motorcycle club.

His personality was stubborn, loud, and outlaw in all the best ways. That grit, that humor, and his fierce devotion to the people he loved will always define him.

Tyler is survived by his wife, Krystal Cavanagh, and their son, Mason (age 8); his parents, Tim and Cynthia Cavanagh; his oldest brother Timothy Cavanagh and wife Amanda; his sister K.C. Cavanagh; his brother Tanner Cavanagh; and his youngest brother Zachary Thompson. He now follows his beloved Gram and Poppy, Edward and Helen Cavanagh, who went before him.
