We thought you should know our hearts are sinking like the setting sun because our cowboy has ridden away.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic passing of our beloved family member Tyler Shane Elrod, who was born August 7, 1994, in Plano, TX, and died February 2, 2024, in Greenville, TX.
With the brightest blue eyes and his mullet-styled long curls, Tyler was a handsome young buck on a mission to be the kind of man God created him to be. He loved hard and felt pain deeply. He was most at home in the great outdoors fishing and hunting. The sound of his rod casting over the water was music to his ears, and sitting quietly in a blind camouflaged by nature's beauty helped him to see the world in a softer, kinder light.
Tyler's two little boys – the spitting image of their father – were the joy of his life. He adored his Mama, and he was a proud Texan, from his pearl snaps and stiffly starched Wranglers down to his boots that happily danced across the floors of honkytonks throughout the Lone Star state. Country music soothed his restless soul. He kept his very favorite artists George Strait and Morgan Wallen on repeat, and in his opinion, "'90s country was undefeated."
The 2013 Lewisville High School graduate cherished his glory days as a Fighting Farmer and was a die-hard fan of his esteemed Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. Celebrating TX/OU weekend, along with his Mama's birthday, was one of his favorite times of the year.
He was also passionate about his job working as a frac mechanic in the oilfield, Cummins diesel trucks and working out. Horses and his devoted labrador retrievers, Wrangler and Waylon, were his kindred spirit animals.
It gives us great comfort knowing that Tyler was baptized last spring and dedicated his life to our Lord and Savior. We know he is resting in perfect peace in Heaven and that we will see him again. Most likely at the best fishing hole just beyond those pearly gates - sitting with the Master of the sea, spinning tall tales about their greatest catches and the ones that got away.
Until that day comes, Tyler leaves behind his two sons, Tuff Lyndi and Lane Billy Elrod; mother, Brandy McClain and husband, Johnny; brother, Peyton Elrod and wife, Hayley; sisters, Jace Talbott and Kaylie Talbott; maternal grandmother, Teresa Jones; uncle, BJ Jones and wife, Missy; aunt, Coby Jones; his father, Shane Elrod; aunt, Ladonna Elrod; brother, Ethan Elrod; uncles, Damon Elrod and Eddie Elrod and their spouses; three nephews; a large extended family and a wide circle of friends who will always love him and be thankful for the gift of his presence in their lives.
He is preceded in death by his beloved paternal grandparents, Lyndi and Joyce Elrod, and his maternal grandfather Billy Jack Jones.
