Tyler John Hovey

Tyler John Hovey, 50, passed away peacefully at the Iowa City Health Care Center, surrounded by the compassionate care of Iowa City Hospice.

Born to Ron and Sue Hovey of Maquoketa, Iowa, Tyler was a 1993 graduate of Maquoketa High School and later attended Iowa Lakes Community College. He was a devoted fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs, and some of his favorite childhood memories were spent watching or attending games-cheering passionately and yelling at the television in support of his teams.

Tyler worked for many years at the family business, Hov's Pub, where he developed a passion for cooking and serving others. In the final years of his parents' lives, Tyler served as their caregiver. He also extended that same compassion to others in need, often caring for disabled or homeless individuals who had no one else.

In recent years, Tyler found a deep and meaningful connection with his faith and looked forward to a joyful reunion in heaven with his parents and many beloved family pets. Though he faced challenges throughout his life, with a deep love for animals, always taking in and nurturing pets in need. Toward the end of his journey, Tyler found peace and recovery, forming lasting friendships and embracing a renewed sense of purpose.

He is survived by his brother Shane (Jodi) Hovey, his sister Ronelle (Jeff) Clark, and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ron and Sue Hovey, and his grandparents, Tuttie & Iva Smith and Ross & Edna Hovey.

In accordance with Tyler's wishes, memorial donations may be made to the River Valley Adult Rehabilitation Center – Salvation Army in Davenport, IA, where he found community and support, or to your local chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous.
