Spilsbury Mortuary - St. GeorgeGlen Reid Hovey died November 12, 2025, in St. George, Utah. He was born December 8, 1941, in St. Louis County, Missouri to Merlin Reid Hovey and Fern Maxine Smith Hovey. He was the oldest of 6 children.
Glen led a very active life of service and adventure which included retiring with the rank of Commander in the US Navy Reserve. He served 26 years including a naval cruise to VietNam in 1968. Later, he served for 10 years in the Pentagon as part of the chief of Naval Operations staff for wargaming.
Glen served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1961-1964 in France as a young man. Glen served as a Branch President in France, Rome Italy, and New Jersey. While living in New Jersey, he and Norma served in the Washington D.C. temple. In Salt Lake City, they served a 2-and-a-1/2-year Family History/Genealogy mission in the Joseph Smith Building. Later, in St. George, they served 10 years as missionaries in the Family History Center and subsequently an 18-month Addiction Recovery mission.
Glen received an MBA degree from George Mason University and a Computer Management Masters from American University in Washington D.C.
Glen is survived by his spouse of 34 years, Norma Gaddy Hovey and former wife Suzanne Lawver mother of; two sons, Richard and Reid; and one daughter, Noelle Hovey who died in 1997 in a house fire along with her 3-year-old daughter, Lily. Glen and Norma have 25 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great granddaughter. Glen is also survived by 4 siblings, Elaine Ellis of Orem, Utah, Roger Hovey of Pleasant Grove, Utah, Ranae Hovey of Las Vegas, Nevada, and David Hovey of Bountiful, Utah.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 22 11:00 - 12:30 p.m. at the Santa Clara Heights Stake Center, 1705 Desert Dawn Drive, Santa Clara, Utah. Funeral will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Interment taking place at the Santa Clara City Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah. 435-673-2454.
