Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fairfield Funeral Home on Jun. 21, 2025.
Tyrone Arthur Williams, the son of the late Arthur Williams and Betty Seymour,
was born on May 12, 1955, in Washington, D.C. The LORD in His infinite wisdom called
Tyrone home to glory on May 28, 2025, at age 70 in
Fairfield, CA.
Tyrone (affectionately known as Ty) was raised by his loving grandparents,
Robert Williams Sr. and Florie Williams, and grew up in the Foggy Bottom section of
Washington D.C. Tyrone accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Union
Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church, where he was an usher and sang in the young men's choir
until his early adulthood.
Growing up, Tyrone was known to be a fun-loving kid–he had an infectious laugh,
loved sports (in particular baseball, basketball, and football), and was always down to
have a fun time. Tyrone was educated in the D.C. Public School system, attending
Grant Elementary, Francis Junior High, and graduated from Western High School in
Washington, D.C. He excelled in school and was exceptionally good at baseball and
basketball.
Upon graduation, Tyrone attended The American University in Washington, D.C.,
where he studied journalism and played baseball. A few years later, Tyrone proudly
served in the United States Army from 1976 to 1984, demonstrating a commitment to
his country that would define much of his early adult life. During his active duty, Tyrone
participated in several sports and activities, including bowling and softball. Following his
military service, he continued his life of service at the United States Postal Service,
where he worked as a mail carrier.
Tyrone's greatest and most fulfilling mission was being a family man. In 1982,
during his assignment in Germany, he met and married the love of his life, Gwendolyn
Williams, and remained in union for 42 years. They went on to raise four children,
daughters Domonique, Tamara, and Tianna (affectionately known as April), as well as a
son, Phillip. Tyrone adored his family and would affectionately refer to his children as
what he was most proud of in his life.
Tyrone was a lifelong learner, deeply engaged in the world around him. He was
known for his caring and compassionate nature, as well as his wicked sense of humor.
A talented and passionate poet, Tyrone enjoyed the arts in various forms. You could
easily find him humming and singing along to music, especially as he made Sunday
breakfast or drove around to handle errands. Always willing to lend an ear, give
profound advice, or tell a witty joke-- one of Tyrone's greatest passions was helping
others and making them smile.
Other passions of his include gardening and watching sports, particularly his
favorite team, the Washington Redskins, as well as spending quality time with his family.
He was also an avid movie buff and a great cook, known for his storytelling and his
ability to engage everyone around him with his insightful views on world news.
Tyrone leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication that will be cherished and
remembered by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn, and four
children, Domonique, Tamara, Phillip, and Tianna; cousins Thaddeus McRay, Jr.
(Diane); Jeryl Jackson (Dwight); Mark J. Hamilton (Racine); G. Christopher Hamilton
(Michelle); friends who became extended family, J.C. Anderson and Gary Dell; along
with a host of family and friends.
Tyrone was a man of humble beginnings with a huge heart. We will all miss him
very much, and his spirit will forever remain in our hearts and memories.
Lovingly Submitted, The Family
