Ulla Nost Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels - Waltham on Mar. 7, 2026.
On March 3, 2026 as the planets aligned and the earth eclipsed the moon, we lost our beloved matriarch Ulla (Gabe) Nost, of Newton MA, as she went on to the greater celestial plane. She was a strong advocate for herself, stuck up for others, was opinionated and stubborn, and so loved by dogs and people throughout her 94 years.

Born in Denmark, she gained an admiration for life, fun, love, and dance despite Nazi rule and tragedies that riddled her early years. She immigrated to the US in the 1950s, where she quickly established lifelong friendships through the Boston based Scandinavian club. There she met her husband, Birger Nost, who she was married to for 54 years, before he predeceased her in 2014. She is also predeceased by her parents Jorgen and Helga Gabe. She is survived by her daughter, Ingrid Caira, and husband Al, of Hudson MA, her grandson Erik Nost, and wife Nicole, their children James, Emilia, and Daniel, grandson Nathan Reed of Leominster MA and his son Gavin, granddaughter Lenore Dubois of Leominster MA, and her sons Aiden and Logan, brother Jens Gabe of Denmark, sister Gitte Pedersen of Chelmsford MA, great nephews/nieces Jan Gabe, Ida Gjerulff, Torbojrn Pedersen, Allan Gabe, and Susanne [Brnada], and so many great friends and neighbors.

Ulla had a passion for living life to the fullest. She stayed up late, drank whiskey, beer and wine, and always knew what was going on in the news and her neighborhood. She maintained her wit and style until the end. She was an accomplished cook, always preparing Sunday dinners of roasts with various sauces for her family as well as her infamous Danish luncheons. She loved Christmas and influenced generations of holiday traditions. She loved all animals, but especially dogs, and dogs always knew they could trust her. One Christmas Eve, a lost beagle puppy correctly scratched at her door and spent Christmas with her until she found its owner. She loved presents, gardening, and sketching in her art books. Most of all, she loved her daughter and her regular and great grandchildren, whom she rained boundless love during her years with them.

Ulla had an eclectic career reserved for legends. She acted in playhouses, cut hair for maestros, and sold houses to best selling authors through her own realty company. She spent time living in Italy, roadtripping across the US with her husband Birger, and never stopped visiting and loving her home country of Denmark. She had so many great stories, some of which we'll now have to speculate the entirety of. Her legend inspires us all.

Ulla will be interred with her late husband Birger at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Massachusetts at a later date. The family is scheduling a Memorial Gathering at this time and will be announced at that time. Please refer to BrascoFuneralhome.com for further information.
