Ulysses Gambrell of 1040 Furman Gambrell Road passed away peacefully at age 76 on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.
He was born on Tuesday, September 13, 1949, to Furman and Virgie Lee Owens Gambrell. As a young man, he served in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. After leaving the military, he was employed for over 30 years as a US postal worker until his retirement. Ulysses loved sports, music, Disney, photography, ice cream, and his riding lawn mower. He was a lifelong resident of Anderson.
He is loved and cherished by his children, Khalilah and Joshua Gambrell of Boston, MA; Keezia Gambrell and his beloved granddaughter, Lailah Gambrell of Springfield, MA; his two brothers, James E. Gambrell (Elizabeth), Louis Neal "L.N." Gambrell both of Anderson, a sister Othel Williams of Charlotte, NC, a beloved niece Jacqueline Carter-Gambrell of Greenville, SC, and his ex-wife Jeraldine Gambrell of Anderson, SC.
Ulysses was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Jonathan Gambrell, and siblings, Beatrice Walker, Evelyn McWhorther, Ernest Gambrell, Johnny L. Gambrell, Willie Thomas Gambrell, and Eugene Gambrell.

You can donate in-person, by check, or online to the library at https://www.andersonlibrary.org/support. Please add a note that the donation is for the Gambrell Teen Room in honor of Ulysses Gambrell.
