John F. Mars, Jr., 71, loving husband of Sara Mars, passed away on November 8, 2025, at Anderson Area Medical Center with family by his side. Born on April 12, 1954, in Abbeville County, South Carolina, John was the cherished son of the late John F. Mars, Sr. and the late Melsia Mae Mars.
A graduate of Abbeville High School, John was a drummer in the Abbeville Grenadier Band and served in the United States Air Force. He later pursued studies at Piedmont Technical College, further enriching his technical expertise.
John's professional journey included roles in the manufacturing sector at Milliken & Company in Abbeville; Greenwood Mills Harris Plant in Greenwood; and as a skilled electrician with Gaines Electric Company in Georgia. In 2022, his military service was recognized with a heartfelt tribute from the Quilts of Valor Foundation-a gesture that deeply moved him and his family.
Gentle in spirit and generous with his wisdom, John embodied quiet strength and enduring kindness. As a devoted husband, nurturing father, and proud Papa, he anchored his family with love, patience, and support. He found joy in the hum of a motorcycle engine, the gleam of his cherished 1967 Chevelle, and the thrill of cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. In quieter moments, he relaxed with episodes of Yellowstone and classic television favorites.
John was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Shaun T. Mars.
He leaves behind a legacy of love that will be carried forward by his wife, Sara; his sons, Kenno (Lawanda) Williams of Abbeville, SC and Courtney Mars of Anderson; his sisters, Faye Wardlaw, Ruby Belton, and Debra Mars, all of Abbeville; two grandchildren, Kenoshia (Josh) Glaze of Abbeville and Asia Tate of Greenwood, SC; one great grandchild, Ja'Myla Glaze; an uncle, Eddie (Rosie) Hamilton of Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
The family will be receiving visitors at 300 Nelson Dr., Anderson, SC, 29621.
