Born in New Jersey, Harry Alexander Mars Jr. was educated in the Elizabeth and Newark Public School systems. While attending University High School, he joined the school band and played the trombone. His love for music extended far beyond that-he also sang in the choir at Trinity Temple SDA Church, where he was a baptized member and youth usher. During his youth, he was an active member of the Newark Pioneer Pathfinder Club where he earned many honors.
A natural musician, Harry taught himself to play the keyboard. From there, he began developing and perfecting his own musical style, producing his own tracks, and writing rhymes-a gift he inherited from his grandmother "Eazy E". His music can be heard on YouTube and SoundCloud.
Harry resided in North Carolina, where he leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Chontey Pettaway, and stepfather, Lawrence Polen. In South Jersey, he is survived by his father, Harry (Judy) Mars.
In Rahway, NJ Harry leaves his Beloved Grandmother Era Pettaway. He also leaves behind three brothers in NC, Majigg A. Jones and his wife, Jessica, and their son Jru, LaShawn A. Pettaway-Polen, and Matthew Z. Pettaway-Polen. In New Jersey, he leaves Dwayne Hopson, Lena Hopson, and Harriet Mars. In Pennsylvania, he leaves his sister, Shaquana Owens. He is also survived by Aliqua Payne, Ebony Mars, Gabriel Mars, and Jakeem Mars in New Jersey, along with 11 additional nieces and 8 nephews who will miss him dearly.
Harry had a large circle of family and friends who loved him deeply, and he loved them just as much. He shared a special bond with his cousins, Benny Mars Jr. and Monique Randolph (affectionately known as Aunt Nutte), an extended big brother, KaShawn McMahand (Billz) and with his Aunt Stacey, who never failed to make sure he had two new outfits every year-one for Easter and one for his Birthday. Harry also leaves his Aunt Delora Mars; Great Aunt and Uncle Patricia Spellman and Sam Sherrod both of NC; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Harry was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Columbus Pettaway Jr.; paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Lena Boykins; aunts Marie Bartley and Evelyn Dantver; and uncles Robert Lee Mars, Jessie Mars, Benny Mars Sr., and William Mars Jr.
Harry's memory will live on through the love he shared, the music he created, and the lives he touched.
