Valerie Pryor was born on April 11, 1960 to Clearance Edwards and Annie Lois Henry. She attended the Newark Public School System: Peshine Ave and University High School. She was part of the first graduating class of University High School. She led the school marching band where she was a Color Guard Captain and a Baton Twirler for Shabazz High School. Valerie was accepted in Ryder University on a full scholarship in Nursing.
Valerie worked for the Newark Public School System as a teacher's aide and later on went on to work for the Board of Elections.
"Val", as she was affectionately called, was one of the kindest sweetest person you could ever meet. She had a beautiful personality and she loved her family and friends. She especially loved her role as Nana. She had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She loved to talk and was known for helping everyone!
Valerie was very smart and a lot of people didn't know she spoke Spanish fluently.
Valerie was known for being the life of the party; she enjoyed dancing, eating crabs, and talking to everyone she came in contact with.
Valerie was the "sociable" one. It would prove to be her superpower. She was very popular in the South Ward "Weequahic Section" and known for being very knowledgeable about anything related to politics and the latest gossip in the neighborhood. Her favorite line was "Girl let me tell you!"
Valerie was preceded in death by her father Clearance Edwards, and her grandmother Annie Mae Pryor who she loved dearly.
Valerie leaves to cherish her memories her mother Annie Lois Henry, of Plainfield, New Jersey her children Willie Clay Jones, of Riverdale Georgia and Altesa Mone't Pryor of Hamilton, New Jersey. Four grandchildren Dejon, Rafik, Elijah and Cam'ron. Two Sisters Tammy Langry of Hillside, New Jersey and Donna Clark of Orange, New Jersey. Two Brothers Lyon Henry of Harlem, New York and Clearance Pankey of Orlando, Florida. A special niece Ashley Langry that she affectionately called "Auntie", and a host of aunts, uncle, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
"With memories that goes beyond measures we will continue to celebrate our beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, niece, aunt, cousin and friend Valerie Pryor."
