A Wife and a Mother's Life Journey
On Thursday May 27, 1943, in Ozark Alabama, God infused the earth with a burst of life and energy in the spirit of Una Mae Smith, born to the union of Boyd Allen and Alma Mae Walker.
At an early age, the family moved to
Canton, OH where Una was educated in the public-school system. For more than sixty years as a successful and passionate Domestic Engineer, Una raised six children, yet, loved and guided a niece and nephew as her own. She welcomed any child who needed a place to lay their head.
To those nearest and dearest to her, she was the Life of the Party, enjoying her life to the fullest and sharing her joy with anyone who visited her at her favorite place, "The Porch".
A dedicated mother, aunt, cousin, sister, daughter, friend and most importantly, a devoted wife, she never met a stranger and was a person of extreme character. She embodied a heart of gold, wrapped in a healthy dose of sarcasm and a no-nonsense approach to raising her family.
Acknowledging the power and love of her God from the beginning, she was first a member of People's Baptist Church. However, most recently she wanted to ensure there were no mistakes on the roll or confusion at the Golden Gates, so she rededicated her life to the Lord and became a member of Union Baptist Church in
Canton, OH. Anyone fortunate to cross her path was blessed by her presence and the love returned by all who met her.
Una was proceeded in death by her parents, Boyd Allen and Alma Mae Walker; brothers, John Henry Walker, Allen (June Bug) Walker Sr., Joe Walker, and her only sister Cheryl Lee Tillman.
Following a life of beauty, love and service, she returned from whence she came on August 9, 2025. She leaves her cherished memories with her best friend, lifelong partner, and husband of 55 years Joe C. Smith; three daughters, Jacqueline Eva Stewart, Amanda (Derak) Williams, and Danielle (Timothy) Chambers; three sons, Willie Lee Stewart of Atlanta, GA, Clifton (Wanda) Smith of Canton, and Joe (Alyssia) Smith of Akron, OH; a niece, Cheryl (Stephan) Brooks, of Akron, OH; nephews, Allen (Juanita) Walker of West Palm, Beach FL, and Benjamin Tillman of San Diego, CA; an aunt, Annie Laura Walker-Locke of Ozark, AL; four sisters-in-law, Pearlene Anderson of Dawson, GA, Ruby Rhodes of Marietta, GA, Mildred (Sonny) Perkins of Fort Myers, Fl and Sandra Armstead of
Canton, OH; one brother-in-law, Jimmy (Ruth) Hayes, and her dearest best friend, Wanda Willis of
Canton, OH. She also leaves to cherish; two very special friends, Christine Smith and Loretta Cundiff. She leaves fond memories with 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, Cousins, and beloved family members, and friends.
