V. Irene Barnett, 100, of Columbus passed from this life on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 8:58 a.m. at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Born September 21, 1924, the daughter of Henry W. and Emma F. Hovis Spiker in Brown County, Indiana.

In 1946, she married Earl T. Barnett, with whom she built a beautiful life filled with joy and love.

Irene's loving memory will be cherished by her devoted son, David (Sherry) Barnett of Columbus, and a lineage that spans generations-including several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and even great-great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Anita West, Wilma Perry, Cathy Clem, sons, Darrell L. and Donald L. Barnett, a brother and a sister.

Irene's distinguished work history spanned over 60 years as a dedicated seamstress. Her skilled hands brought beauty into the world, sewing everything from practical buttons to exquisite wedding dresses. She poured love into every stitch and was still sewing until the last few years.

She found solace in tending to her flower garden and took great pride in her yard work. Sewing was not just her vocation but also her passion, and she often expressed her creativity and affection through the beautiful pieces she created.

Through her century on this earth, Irene left indelible impressions on countless hearts, and her story will be recounted with smiles and admiration. She has now found peace and eternal rest, but the love she gave and the lessons she imparted will resonate infinitely.

The funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. Thursday at Barkes, Weaver and Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Kevin Johnson officiating. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 10:00 a.m. till time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery.

In memory of Mrs. Barnett memorial contributions may be given to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Online condolences and special memories may be shared with the Barnett family and a video tribute viewed at barkesweaverglick.com.

Irene was a sweet lady. She was a talented seamstress. When I married her sons stepson she was very welcoming and always had an open door, a listening ear and made me feel at home.
