Wayne Moody, passed from this life on September 1, 2025, in Columbus at the age of 91. Born on August 27, 1934, in Jackson County, Indiana, Wayne was the son of Ralph and Mellicent Lord Moody.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Wayne served his country with pride for six years. Following his military service, he cultivated a life enriched with personal interests and community involvement. Wayne possessed a fondness for the bygone eras captured in Western films, with a particular fondness for the rugged charm of John Wayne classics. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew of this love and joyfully expanded his movie collection over the years.

Wayne's life was a testament to his enduring strength and work ethic. For nearly three decades, he owned and operated his own excavating company, making substantial contributions to local development and infrastructure. His reputation for quality work and integrity lingered even after he sold his business, as he continued his vocation as a dump truck driver for Bishop Trucking.

Beyond his front porch, Wayne found serenity in the natural world. Fishing lines cast at dawn and the quiet patience of a turkey hunt were amongst his favorite pursuits. These moments in the wilderness were not solitary; they became treasured memories for friends and family who joined him. His enthusiasm for antique tractors was yet another facet of his character, with his prized 1947 Farmall taking center stage at tractor pulls, turning heads and sparking conversations amongst fellow enthusiasts.

Wayne's legacy is carried on by his beloved wife of 70 years, Joyce K. Boling Moody; his children, Gary (Kelly) Moody, Greg (Jan) Moody, and Amy (Tim) King, all residents of Columbus; and his heart's treasures, his eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Virginia White of Scottsburg, alongside numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Joe Moody and Barbara Shirley.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 6th at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington St. with Brian Gilroy officiating. Family and friends may gather for a time of visitation from 11:00 a.m. until time of service.

Wayne will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be to Riley Hospital for Children.
