Valborg M. Schmieg

Valborg M. Schmieg, aged 96, of Frazee, MN, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at her residence, surrounded by her family and under the compassionate care of HIA Hospice.

Valborg Marie Anderson was born on July 11, 1928, in Spring Prairie Township near Hitterdahl, MN, to Oscar and Borghild (Nelson) Anderson. She spent her formative years attending country school in the Hawley and Hitterdahl areas.

On February 8, 1947, Valborg married Carl J. Nelson. Together, they built a loving family until Carl's untimely passing on November 11, 1968. Val embraced the challenge of raising their four children alone, diligently working in various roles throughout her life.

On August 3, 1974, Valborg found love again when she married Roy R. Schmieg, who preceded her in death on July 12, 1989.

Val enjoyed a vibrant life filled with adventures such as camping, traveling, and fishing. She cherished playing cards and board games, but her greatest joy came from the time spent with her beloved children and grandchildren.

Valborg is lovingly remembered by her children, Curtis (Cynthia) Nelson of Maple Grove, MN, Gary (Linda) Nelson of Excelsior, MN, and Kathryn (Arden) Rohman of Frazee, MN; six grandchildren, Pat Nelson, Paul Nelson, Christopher Rohman, Sage Rohman, Anthony Nelson, and Natalie Wendell; a sister, Jeannine Zebley; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Carl, her second husband, Roy, her son, Lyle Nelson; three sisters, Alida Dallmann, Eveleth Ulven, Silvie Kronbeck; and one brother, Orvis Anderson.

A special "Thank You" to HIA Hospice for their wonderful gentle care and support they provided to Val. Our family could not have done this without you!

Memorial service for Valborg will be Friday, June 27, at 2PM in Grace United Methodist Church, Moorhead, MN.  Family and friends will gather one hour prior to her service.  Interment will be at a later date in Highland Grove Cemetery in Hitterdahl, MN.
