Valeria Selma (Knetig) Eggert, 91, known by many as Val, passed away after a short illness on July 21, 2024 at her home of the last almost 4 years, Heritage Creek Assisted Living in San Antonio, TX. Val was born on March 7, 1933 to Alvin Robert Knetig and Anna Louise (Klostermann) Knetig in Robstown, TX. She was baptized, confirmed and married at St. John Lutheran Church in Robstown and later raised her children at Abiding Savior Lutheran and Christ Lutheran in Corpus Christi. She then was a long-time active member of St. Mark's Lutheran in Corpus Christi and the last 3+ years attended Grace Lutheran Church in San Antonio.
She was a loving mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She grew up in Robstown on the farm, the youngest of 7 children. She graduated from West Oso High School as Salutatorian of her class and attended Texas Lutheran College for a short time before marrying Clinton William Eggert, SR in 1953. Once her children were born and until they were both in school, she stayed home to care for them. Val regularly participated in church activities at the various Lutheran churches she became a member of over the years and she especially cherished her church family at St. Mark's where she loved playing games with her senior friends there. She always made sure there were cookies and coffee ready for Sunday after the service.
Val became a Camp Fire Girl Leader for her daughter and friends, later working in the Camp Fire Girls of Corpus Christi office. One summer she spent the entire summer being the Camp Director at the Camp Fire Girls Camp on Lake Corpus Christi where her family lived for the summer. She later began working for an insurance company from where she then retired.
Valeria was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, all 6 of her siblings and all but 1 of their spouses: Meta Knetig Naumann (Bill), Norma Knetig Guettler (Emil), Edmund Knetig (Fridel), Leroy Knetig (Sedonia), Victor Knetig (Kathy), and Elwood Knetig (Mona Faye). Also preceding her in death were her parents in-law, Edgar H. Eggert, Sr. and Edith Hajek Eggert, her brother's in laws Aldon Eggert, Edgar H Eggert Jr. and his wife Evelyn, and Melvin Hinze (Dolores).
Valeria is survived by her children, Donna (Eggert) Blalock of San Antonio and Clint Eggert Jr. of Corpus Christi and her grandchildren who she loved spoiling over the years, Melissa (Blalock) Moore of Richmond, TX and Leslie Blalock (Martha Noblett) of San Antonio, TX. Her great grandchildren were also special to her including Daniel Moore and Katin Moore of Richmond, TX, Taylor Noblett of San Antonio, TX, Jackson Noblett of Kerrville, TX, Harrison Noblett and Lillian Noblett of San Antonio, TX and one great-great grandson, Caleb Noblett of San Antonio, TX.
Valeria is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mona Faye (Wendel) Knetig of Robstown, TX, sister-in law Dolores (Eggert) Hinze of Houston, TX, Mary Louise (Eggert) Veselka and husband Reynold Veselka of Katy, TX as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 8th from 6:00 -8:00 pm at Seaside Funeral Home, 4357 Ocean Dr.,
Corpus Christi, TX. Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, August 9th, 1:00 pm at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 4620 S Alameda St.,
Corpus Christi, TX with burial following at 2:30 pm at Seaside Memorial Park at 4357 Ocean Dr.
Corpus Christi, TX.
