Valerie J. Barlow

Valerie J. Barlow passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at the age of 80.

Valerie Wilson was born January 29, 1946 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to June A. Whitlock and John Wilson Jr. She attended Hill Elementary School and Germantown High School and was voted most popular student in class. She graduated Germantown High School with honors at the young age of 16 and went on to attend Ohio State where she majored in Economics and Accounting. Later, she continued studies at Temple University.

After college, Valerie started her career at OIC of America, The Fidelity Bank, Temple University and retired from GlaxoSmithkline in 2005 after 21 years.

Valerie was married to the late William Edward Turner, II and produced one son, the late William Edward Turner, III. Later in life, met and married the late Raymond A. Barlow Sr., a Police Sergeant with the Philadelphia Police Department. They spent many happy years together until his passing in 2015.

Valerie loved to travel and socialize, but always enjoyed her quiet time. She will truly be missed by all who came to know and love her.

She is survived by her sister, Andrea Frink, her daughter-in-law Deborah Turner , grandchildren Donte Smith and Desiree Martin, and great-grandson Messiah, as well as a host of family and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet Valerie's family on Saturday, April 4, 2026 from 8:30 AM until her Funeral Service at 10:00 AM at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19154. Her interment will follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia PA.
