Obituary of Valerie E. Cloud

Valerie E. Cloud, age 78, of Chadds Ford, PA passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on July 24, 2025. Born in Long Island, NY, Valerie has been a longtime resident of Chadds Ford, PA. A gifted athlete, Valerie played on the U.S. National Field Hockey Team from 1968 to 1973, an experience that allowed her to travel the world doing what she loved. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the sport, she was inducted into the SUNY Brockport Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1980, Valerie began a remarkable 30-year coaching career at the University of Pennsylvania, where she mentored generations of student-athletes and left an indelible mark on the field hockey program. Valerie also enjoyed playing golf and was a longtime member of the DuPont Country Club. Above all, Valerie cherished her family. Her happiest moments were those spent in the company of her loved ones, sharing stories, laughter, and time together. She will be remembered for her fierce spirit, her devotion to those she loved, and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.

In addition to her parents, Stanley and Ruth (Fimbell) Miller, Valerie is preceded in death by her husband, James H. Cloud, who died in 1994. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Kelly Ensslin (Jeffrey) and Jodi Cloud, a brother, Stanley Miller (Lynne), 2 step-children, Deborah DiMarco and James Cloud Jr., and 3 grandchildren, Colin, Ryan and Maggie Ensslin. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 1st from 10-11AM at Elam U.M. Church, 1073 Smithbridge Rd., Glen Mills, PA, followed by a Funeral service at 11AM.
