Valerie Kalous, age 71 of Lohrville, IA, passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA. Valerie was born on September 8, 1952, to parents Dellwyn and Maxine (Minnehan) Whiting in Lake City, IA. She grew up in Lanesboro, IA, and attended grade school in Lake City. Valerie graduated from Lake City High School with the class of 1971 and continued her education at Iowa Central Community College to become a Registered Nurse.
On March 23, 1974, Valerie was united in marriage to the love of her life, Ron Kalous, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake City. This union was blessed with a son, Kevin. Valerie worked at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital for 43 years with 31 of those as an RN, retiring in 2017. She was a woman with solid faith and embraced herself in many organizations to spread her love for faith. Valerie was a member of WINGS
-Calhoun County Parishes, Catholic Sodality, and co-chairman of Manakel Circle, and the Rosary Society. Valerie also participated in the Calhoun County Nurse Honor Guard group and was a Stewart Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary member.
Valerie had many hobbies throughout her life. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and gardening. You could always find her outside harvesting walnuts in the yard. Valerie cherished the time spent with her family, husband, and friends. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 49 years Ron Kalous of Lohrville, IA; son Kevin (Shawna) Kalous of Lytton, IA; grandchildren: Ashlynn, Claire, and Lilly; siblings: Marlene (Jim) Rath of Glidden, IA, Angie (Randy) Richardson of Lanesboro, IA, Wendy (Randy) Alger of Blakesburg, IA, Steve (Amy) Whiting of Lake City, IA, and brother-in-law Dave (Becky) Kalous of Fort Dodge, IA; several nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents Dellwyn and Maxine Whiting and in-laws Carl and Jean Kalous.
