Valerie Ann Lunsford-Winbush

With profound love and sorrow, we share that Valerie Ann Lunsford-Winbush entered eternal rest and went home to be with the Lord Friday, October 17, 2025. She departed this life leaving behind a beautiful legacy of faith, compassion, and grace.

Valerie was educated in the Person County School System, graduating from Person Senior High School, and continuing her education at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina.

Valerie loved to read and was a lifelong learner with an insatiable curiosity about the world around her. She found great joy in books of every kind-literature, history and inspirational works-and often shared her discoveries with family and friends. Her passion for knowledge extended beyond the written page; she remained deeply engaged in current events and meaningful conversations about faith, education and community. Valerie believed that learning was a lifelong journey and encouraged others to seek understanding, wisdom and truth in all things.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving and devoted husband, Kester D. Winbush of the home; her beloved sister, Anita Lunsford of Roxboro, North Carolina; and her two deeply cherished nephews: Sterling Cue of Hinesville, Georgia and Savion Cue of Roxboro.

She is also remembered by her maternal aunt, Quincey N. Eaves of Durham, North Carolina; her paternal aunt, Mary Pettiford and her uncles: Robert Lunsford, Sr. and James Goods, all of Roxboro; brothers-in-law: Ralph Cue, Moses Winbush, Jr. (Kay) and Zack Winbush (Dorothy), all of Roxboro, Keith Winbush (Tonya) of Creedmoor, North Carolina and Tony Richmond, of Milton, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Jackie Winbush Hester, of Mebane, North Carolina; a dear and beloved friend, Mrs. Drucilla Johnson of Roxboro; and many other dear relatives - too numerous to name - along with a host of cherished friends and loved ones whose lives were touched by her kindness and grace.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025 at 1:00pm at Cunningham & Associates Funeral Services with Bishop Clevie Brandon, Pastor at Compassionate Ministries, Incorporated, providing the eulogy and the Reverend Ronald Booker, Pastor at Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Nelson Family Cemetery, 2555 Allensville Road, Roxboro, North Carolina 27574.

Visitation will be Friday at the funeral home from 1:00pm to 6:00pm, with the family present during the last hour from 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

Her body will lie in state Saturday at the funeral home from 12:00pm to 1:00pm, one hour prior to the service.
