Valerie Jo Manthorne (Stanton) of Liberty New York passed away surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday March 24, 2026.

Born to Irving and Marie Stanton in Liberty on June 28, 1962 she was affectionately known as Josie. Josie had a feisty personality and an amazing laugh that took over a room. Her sense of adventure led her to Syracuse, New York where she started a family eventually, bringing her children back to the mountains that she called home. Josie’s determination and strong will helped her through life’s challenges and both are characteristics that her children Michael and Monica carry on as her legacy. She loved fiercely and her departure has left an unimaginable loss to those who she leaves behind.

Josie is survived by a large and loving family.   Her children Michael (Jessica) Rendino, Monica Bahamundi, and Matthew Rendino. Grandchildren Silas, Hailey, Meya, Matthew, Michael, Meredith, and Juliana and great grandson Dominic. Her loving partner Tony Urquiza, to whom we are eternally grateful for giving her the love she always wanted and for caring for her through her illness. Siblings; Vincent (Rebecca) Stanton, Laura (Leroy) Stewart, Elaine (George) Saenz, Preston Stanton, Chester Stanton, and Belinda Vangordon. As well as many nieces and nephews.

Josie was proceeded in death by her parents Irving and Marie as well as siblings Leo Stanton, Eva Egusiza, and Evelyn Forshay and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial to celebrate Josie‘s life will be held in June.
