Chism-Smith Funeral HomeValerie Ann Schmitt, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 1, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on August 7, 1943, in San Antonio, Texas, Valerie spent her formative years growing up in the Oak Cliff area of Dallas. She was a proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, where she laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and dedication.
Valerie embarked on her career working with Taylor Publishing before transitioning to her role as a sales clerk at Walgreens. Her friendly demeanor and genuine kindness touched the lives of many during her tenure, making her a respected presence in the community.
Beyond her professional life, Valerie was known for her rich hobbies and interests. She was an avid reader, finding joy in the pages of countless books. Valerie also enjoyed playing bingo, which brought her much happiness and allowed her to connect with friends and fellow enthusiasts. Crocheting was another passion of hers, and she often delighted in creating handmade gifts for her family and friends.
Valerie was a devoted mother to her son, Rick Sullivan, and his wife, Leslie of Euless, as well as her two daughters, Tami Sullivan of Alvarado, Texas, and Becky Schmitt of Irving, Texas. Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.
She is also survived by her brother, Zade Rosenthal, III of Irving, and her sisters, Joan Boudreaux of Richardson, Texas, and Carol Walbrink of Michigan. Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, Zade Rosenthal and Helen Zeve, as well as her husband, Jerry Schmitt.
As we remember Valerie Ann Schmitt, let us celebrate her life and the warmth she brought to everyone around her. Her spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones, and her memory will be cherished for years to come.
