Dr. Veena Dua, a compassionate and ambitious soul, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2024. Born to Ved and Dev Chawla in Lyallpur, India on March 1, 1942. Veena was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Prem Dua; her parents; brother, Anil Chawla; and sister, Manju (Chawla) Singh. Veena is survived by her sister, Anju Chawla; her sons, Dr. Salil Dua and Sameer (Sam) Dua, along with her daughter in law, Amy (Wesolowski) Dua; and her four beloved grandchildren, Sean, Ryan, Samantha and Lucas.
Prior to immigrating to the United States with her husband, Veena studied medicine at Kanpur medical school, completed an Internship at Safdarjung hospital (Internal Medicine and OBGYN) and completed a residency at Victoria Zenana Hospital (OBGYN). Once in the US, she became board certified in Nuclear Medicine and Radiology. Veena practiced medicine at various hospitals in the Detroit area and later joined her husband in private practice, where they worked together for over 30 years.
Despite her dedication to the medical field and her patients, Veena made time to travel. Her love and awe of nature inspired her desire to travel around the world. She wanted to be sure her family saw all the beauty that the world has to offer. She enjoyed dragging her husband and children all around the globe to places such as, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Scandinavia, Russia, Iceland, Vietnam, Australia, Egypt, Alaska and Hawaii along with many other destinations. The only thing Veena loved more than nature's beauty was her family. Her husband, children and grandchildren meant the world to her.
Veena's compassionate spirit, strength and resilience are never-ending. After caring for her ailing husband for over four years, she battled cancer for another 12 years. She never gave up or backed down from the challenge. Veena leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire and guide her loved ones. Her memory will forever be a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew her.
Although Veena did not desire public funeral services, the family will be hosting a small Pooja in January 2025, which will be viewable via zoom (link will be provided once it becomes available)
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to one of Veena's favorite charities, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. (click the link below to donate online)
