Velma "Turkey" Farley

Turkey - Velma Farley, age 79, of Turkey, passed away onThursday, September 25, 2025. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 29, 2025 at Dreamland Cemetery in Turkey. Arrangements are under the personal care of the Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Quitaque.

Velma Elizabeth (Sandefer) Farley (Betty) passed away peacefully on the morning of September 25, 2025 in Matador, Texas at the age of 79 years. Graveside service will be in Dreamland Cemetery on Monday, September 29, 2025 @ 2 o'clock in Turkey, Texas.

Betty was born on May 18, 1946 in Jasper Texas and grew up in Matador with her siblings as well as her cousins who were "like-siblings" to her.
On April 9, 1966 she married her beloved husband of 59 years, Billie Farley, in Matador. They began their life together in the military. After almost 2 years in the Army, and living for a time in Germany, they returned to the States and worked for many years on ranches.

Over the years, Betty had many jobs, from ranch work to the US Postal Service, and she enjoyed them all. But she most enjoyed supporting her family however she could. She hauled many kids and show animals over the years to various contests, shows, etc. while her kids participated in 4-H and FFA as well as other school activities. She was a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend, but when she became a Grandmother, she really shined. Being a Grandmother and eventually a Great Grandmother were her most cherished Blessings!

Betty was a member of the Quitaque Methodist Church for many years after she and Billie transferred their membership so that they could attend church with their Grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her father, NA Sandefer, her mother, Frances Mitchell, her Daddy, Bob Mitchell, and one son, Calvin Farley.

She is survived by her husband, Billie of Turkey, a son, Wesley (Sena) Farley, of La Luz, NM, and a daughter, Sue Zanna (Max) Meyer of Quitaque. Her Grandchildren: Madison, Zack (Abby), Ian (Maegan), Hayden (Alaina), Cody, Sydnee (Garrison) Will, Katelynn (Chase) and Kloee. Her Great Grandchildren : Carson, Maddyn, Cohen, Teal, Stetson, Tripp, Raylee, and one on the way.

Betty will be dearly missed by her family and friends
