Velma M. Joyce, age 85 of Mansfield, passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at Avita Health System – Ontario Hospital. She was born on July 13. 1940, in Coburn, Virginia, to the late Hershel J. and Bertha C. (Campbell) Adkins.

Velma was highly independent and a hard worker. She worked in factories throughout much of her life, but most recently, she spent some time as a home health aide. She was a loving, caring woman who never knew a stranger, and she'd give anyone the shirt off her back. She adored babies and reveled in celebrating her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her children Rita (Robert) Hatfield and Ray (Lynn) Trent; her brothers Jimmy (Elizabeth) Adkins, David (Linda) Adkins, and Larry (Andrea) Adkins; her sisters Ruth Friend, Freda Jenkins, and Mary Rhoads; her grandchildren Melissa Krauss, Cole (Allie) Baker, Jason (Samantha) Baker, Jessica (Jimmie) Pfister, Ashley Trent, Shawn (Lindsey) Taylor, and Joshua (Hillary) Taylor; and numerous beloved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond H. Joyce; her daughters Kathy Marie Taylor and Judy Ann Trent; her parents Hershel and Bertha Adkins; and numerous siblings and their spouses.

A private burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, PO Box 756, Osceola, WI 54020.
