Velma Jean Maxey, age 98, of Bedford, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2025 at her residence. She was born April 21, 1927 in Bedford, she was the daughter of Robert and Barbara (Adcock) Fisher.
Mrs. Maxey was a graduate of Trimble County High School, and a business school in Louisville, Kentucky. For eleven years before her marriage in 1957, she lived and worked in Louisville as a secretary for the Milk Market Administrator. She was also a homemaker.
Mrs. Maxey had been a member of Bedford Christian Church since age 13. She enjoyed birdwatching and other animals and was a member of the American humane Society.
Her surviving family includes one son and daughter-in-law, Marlon and Robin Maxey of Bedford; one daughter and son-in-law, Janelle and Bill Coghill of Crestwood, Kentucky; and one nephew, Kevin Gatewood.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Millard R. Maxey, to whom she was married in 1957, and who preceded her in death on December 2, 2000; two sisters: Roberta Fisher and Florence Gatewood and her husband, Leland; and one nephew, Greg Gatewood.
