Velma Packard Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barnes-Friederich & Pope Funeral Home - Del City on Jan. 1, 2026.
Velma Marie Packard (Carter) went home to spend eternity with her Lord Jesus on December 28, 2025. Velma was 87.
Velma was born on February 7, 1938, in Redland, Oklahoma, to Murray Carter and Leona Burton (Ward).
Velma was a graduate of Choctaw High School. She retired from OKCPS where she served the kids as a cook. On many occasions after retirement, the kids would see her out and talk to her, "You fed me at school," and memories were recalled.
Velma was a member of Dickson Baptist Church; she loved her church family and was always sad when she couldn't go. She loved reading her Bible and had many discussions with family, digging into the scriptures.
Velma was a rock for our family and always helped whomever she could. Her heart and door were always open to anyone who needed her. She loved to shop, and she loved shopping on Amazon. She loved her family and enjoyed sitting to share stories about the past, recalling all the times we spent together when our family lived closer.
On August 30, 1958, she married Royce Alwyn Packard at Dickson Baptist Church.
Velma is preceded in death by her husband, Royce; her mother, Leona Burton; her father, Murray Carter; her "forever dad," Clarence Burton; and her sister Joyce Packard.
Velma is survived by Daughter, Veloyce Hurst, and husband Ed, and daughter Caroline Swindell. Grandkids Tamara Swindell and Fiancé Russell Anderson, Madison Dockery and husband Lucas, James Hurst and wife Amanda, and Lola Hurst. Great-grandkids, Anthony, Sarah, Landen, Elizabeth, Addison, Katelyn, and Lilly (pickles). Great-Great-grandkids, Dawson, Braxton, and Cooper. She is also survived by many family members and friends. Velma loved you all. A special thank you to those who were always there to help Velma with her many projects: Jordan, Jesse, Mason, Teresa, James, Denice, Wanda, her sister in Jesus, she loved you. Thank you for everything you all did. She truly appreciated everything.
