Velma June Vogler Poteat passed peacefully on September 2, 2025.

She was born March 2, 1930, in Portland, Oregon to Fred and Lillian Dilley Vogler. She was raised in Oregon and Washington states. She worked as a Social Worker in San Francisco prior to her marriage. On August 14, 1955, she married Laurence Ernest Poteat, a native of Bakersville, North Carolina. Laurence died in 1993 in Miami, Florida. She moved to Greenville, South Carolina in 1994 to be near her daughters and grandchildren.

Velma is survived by her daughters Laura (Doug) Slagh of Greer, South Carolina, and Amy (Steve) Ferguson of Mooresville North Carolina. Grandchildren Lisa Slagh (Mike) Reinke, Jimmy Slagh, Kevin Slagh, Andrew Slagh, Ben Ferguson, Matt Ferguson, and Cailee Ferguson (Raj Polureddy). And two great granddaughters, Joanna and Makenna Reinke. She is also survived by a sister VaLee Vogler Hess of San Jose, California.

She was an avid vegetable and flower gardener. Velma loved visiting flower gardens with her family. In her younger years she enjoyed volunteering with many different organizations, especially Girl Scouts.

Burial in the Bakersville Memorial Cemetery. A private family Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
