Velma J. Smith, 78, was born in Alva, Kentucky and had lived between Kentucky and Ewing, Virginia all of her life. She was a homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She had placed her faith in Jesus many years ago and began as a member of Black Star Pentecostal Church.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, the late Harry Smith of Ewing, Virginia; her parents, Joe Bledsoe and Rose Roark Bledsoe of Pathfork, Kentucky; two sisters, Phyllis Heck of Pathfork, Kentucky and Sonia Bledsoe of Middlesboro, Kentucky; and brothers, Lee Samuel Bledsoe and Earl Clinton Bledsoe, both of Pathfork, Kentucky.
Velma is survived by three sisters, Janice and Eddie Saylor of Pineville, Kentucky, Anita Ping of Alexandria, Kentucky, Mary Harris of Wallins Creek, Kentucky; her daughter, Telena and Mike Robinson of Union, Kentucky; her son, Robert Smith of Ludlow, Kentucky; grandchildren, Makayla and Michael Malott of Union, Kentucky, Tyler Smith, Carson Smith, and Reese Smith all of Park Hills, Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Oakley Malott and Wylie Malott; great-nephew and prayer partner, Dawson Howard; special friend, Patsy Sowders of Ewing, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 6:00 PM on Monday, June 2, 2025, at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home with Rev. Jody Moore presiding. Graveside interment services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 3 at the Lee Memorial Gardens - Park West in Rose Hill, Virginia with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM until the funeral hour at Arnett & Steele Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Pineville, which is honored to be serving the Smith Family. We invite you to view and sign the online registry at www.arnettsteele.com.
