Vera Bazemore

Vera Powell Bazemore, age 80, passed away in Savannah, GA on May 9, 2025. She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Robert, and her parents, Marion and Ruth Powell, and leaves behind a sister, Barbara Mock (Glenn, Deceased). Vera was born and spent most of her life in Screven County, where she met her husband at Green Hill Church. Although she attended Draughon Business School and spent a few years in Savannah, she returned to Screven County to raise her family. She is survived by her children, Rob Bazemore and wife Lauren and Shannon Sowell and husband Bryan. She'd claim she was neither strong nor independent, but she toured the Holy Land and Alaska, drove her own zero- turn mower and got herself anywhere she needed to go. Her hands bore both the evidence of the years she spent working hard and the tenderness of raising two children and six grandchildren. She was "Meme" to Seth and Emily Bazemore, Aidan Sowell and Jacob, Andrew, and Dylan Dixon. Vera saw her most important role as taking care of her family, but that didn't just include immediate family. Vera's "family" included her extended family, her bank clients, her church, her community, and anyone she felt would benefit from her love language of cooking, her time and attention, or willingness to listen to them. She exemplified, in every way, the two most important of the 10 Commandments Jesus emphasized, when asked: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind, and Love your neighbor as yourself. Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church Sylvania, 214 S Main St. on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 between the hours of 1 - 3. Funeral Services will be held immediately following the visitation at 3:00 pm with Reverend Sean Vickers presiding. Interment will be at the Screven Cemetery on East Ogeechee Street. Pallbearers for the service will be Paulk Bacon, Seth Bazemore, Justin Brannen, Matthew Chadwick, Rick Chadwick, Dylan Smith, Aidan Sowell, and Avery Willis. Honorary Pallbearers include the Faith Sunday School Class, Murphy WMU, and Tuesday Card Club. In lieu of flowers the family requested memorial donations be made to the Murphy WMU Group at the First Baptist Church of Sylvania.
