Vera G Brooks

Schenectady Vera G. Brooks, 91, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2024 at Ellis Hospital. Born in Saxe, VA she was the daughter of the late George and Ruth (Jackson) Robinson. Vera moved to Schenectady in the early 1950's to be closer to family and instantly considered it her home. She was an active member of Friendship Baptist Church in Schenectady for over seventy years, serving the church in numerous capacities. She held long and rewarding careers with General Electric and the New York State Department of Higher Education. Following retirement, Vera enjoyed spending time with friends and family and attending church functions. In addition to her parents, Vera was predeceased by her beloved husband John Brooks in 1973, as well as her two sisters and five brothers. Survivors include her children, Ruth Hughes, Catherine Sykes, Charlie Robinson (Laura) and Ida Carey (Bernard); grandchildren, Rashida Sykes, Chudney Preston (Malcolm) and Bernard Carey II (Daniela), and her great-grandchildren, Malia and Joseph Preston.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at 12pm at Friendship Baptist Church, 409 Union St, Schenectady, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday 10am-12pm prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie. Arrangements have been entrusted to Light's Funeral Home, Schenectady.
