Vera Dudley, 100 years old, of Norman, OK died on January 1, passing away peacefully at Grace Skilled Nursing Home in Norman. She was born on December 6, 1923, to Martha and Tom Hughes in Haskell, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lee, brothers Archie and Kenneth Hughes, and three sisters, Easter, and Gladys Hughes, and Helen Kimbrell. Vera graduated from Sasakwa High School in 1942 and played the clarinet in the high school band.
She spent most of her working years in bookkeeping roles. Vera retired in 1988 as the Financial Secretary for Harding Middle School in Oklahoma City, OK.
She married the love of her life, Lee Dudley, on October 13, 1945, and together they spent 49 years. He passed away on June 8, 1994.
Vera and Lee enjoyed taking short road trips, loved to fish, and play dominos with their family and friends. They especially loved to dance whenever they could. She loved all sports, especially the Thunder, OU football and OU women's basketball. Her favorite sport was baseball and she dearly loved watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
Vera loved to read, reading her Bible most often. Most of all, she loved her family, had a passion for living life to the fullest, laughed often, and made friends easily wherever she went. She will be dearly missed by many.
Vera is survived by her daughter Elissa Fox, husband Jeff Robison of Norman, OK, and her son Jim Dudley and wife Carol of Granbury, TX; five grandchildren: Devon Howe and husband Brandon of Bixby, OK, Justin Fox and wife Catherine of Norman, OK, Brad Dudley of San Antonio, TX, Wendy Ochs and husband Rob of Enid, OK, and LeAnn Vela and husband Philip of San Antonio, TX; as well as four great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses, doctors, and staff at Grace Skilled Nursing Home, and Good Shepherd Hospice, for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 6, 2024, at the John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home in Moore, OK, for close friends and family. Interment will follow the service at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City, OK. Services are under the direction and care of the John M. Ireland & Son Funeral Home in Moore.
