Vera Elizabeth Lester, a beloved member of her community and dedicated family member, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Ellijay, Georgia. Born on February 5, 1936, in Lawrenceville, Georgia, Vera lived a life marked by hard work, devotion, and service to others.
A retired office manager at Mayer Electric, Vera was known for her unwavering commitment to her job and her colleagues. Her professionalism and care made her a respected figure in her workplace and an inspiration to those who had the pleasure of working alongside her.
Vera was a cherished member of New Hope Christian Church, where she actively participated and fostered strong connections within her community. Her faith was an integral part of her life, guiding her decisions and inspiring those around her.
Vera was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Avery Lester, as well as her parents, Guy and Ruth Johnson Thompson. She also mourned the loss of her siblings: Gene Lester, Mona Glisson, Shirley Hodge, Gaye Lee, Monjet Thompson, and A.L. Thompson. Their memories lived on in the stories and lessons they shared together.
She is survived by her adoring daughter, Debbie Lester; her sister, Patsy Turner; her brother, Quinton Thompson; and a number of cherished nieces and nephews. Vera's family will forever hold dear the love she bestowed upon them and the countless memories they created together.
Visitation services will be held on August 9, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Ivie Funeral Home located at 1053 S. Elm Street, Commerce, Georgia, 30529. A funeral service will follow the visitation at the same location, beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Vera’s legacy of love, strength, and faith will continue to resonate with all those who knew her.
