Vera Aleen Niermeier passed away on June 24, 2024, at Rooks County Health Center in Plainville, KS, at the age of 93. She was born on August 30, 1930, to John and Anna (Schoen) Schoen on the family farm north of Downs, KS. She married Bernardt "Ben" Niermeier on June 11, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Downs, KS. They were blessed with three children: Debra, Linda, and J.D.
Vera graduated from Downs High School and Brown Mackie Business College in Kansas City in 1949. She worked for Western Auto General Office and REA in Mankato, KS prior to getting married. She then was a housewife and bookkeeper/secretary for 30 years for their Culligan franchise which they purchased in 1952. Aside from her work life, she was very active in multiple organizations at First Lutheran Church in Plainville.
Vera is survived by her children, Deborah Niermeier of Stockton, Linda (John) Ireton of Bennington, KS, and J.D. (Deborah) Niermeier of Depauw, IN; brothers, Kenneth (Glenda) Schoen of Overland Park, KS and Everett (Shirley) Schoen of Downs, KS; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Cory) Kessler, Jill (Kevin) Hasseldahl, Kate (Adam) Walker, Andy (Andrea) Niermeier, and Carly (Justin) DoHoney-Niermeier; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Richard Shoen and Marvin Schoen; and son-in-law, Charles Halm.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 2PM at the First Lutheran Church in Plainville. Burial will follow in the Stockton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday before the service at 1PM until 2PM service time.
Memorials are suggested to First Lutheran Church and The Lutheran Hour and may be sent to Plumer-Overlease Funeral Home, 723 N. 1st, Stockton, KS 67669.
