Vera Trotter-Huddleston Porter

Vera Porter was born December 18, 1927, in Mound Bayou, Mississippi in the Hibbler House to the late Emmett Trotter and Beulah Keys Trotter. Vera was the eldest of three girls.
Vera was raised by JF & Addie Huddleston her foster parents in Mound Bayou, Mississippi and
joined Bethel AME Church at an early age.
Vera graduated from Mound Bayou High School in 1946 and Henderson Business School in Memphis, Tennessee in 1949. Vera traveled during her young adult years between Mound Bayou and Chicago working in the Huddleston Grocery Market, Taborian Hospital, and Montgomery Ward.
Vera and James Henry Porter joined in holy matrimony in 1964 in San Pedro, California. She traveled via military with her husband to various states and Germany working in various retail positions until retirement.
Vera and Porter moved to Las Vegas in 1970 and attended church on Nellis Airforce base and later joined First African Methodist Episcopal Church. They enjoyed their retirement until Porter passed away in 1999. Vera was jovial, high spirited and an extraordinary giving person and lived a blessed 94 years with an amazing memory.
Vera departed this life on Thursday, April 21, 2022. She was preceded in death by her husband James Henry Porter, parents Emmett Trotter and Beulah Keys Trotter, her foster parents JF and Addie Huddleston, sister Earlie Thompson and nephew Ward Thompson, Jr.
Vera leaves to celebrate her homegoing; her sister Beulah Delois Walker, Chicago, Illinois, Daughter Etoya (Larry) Rochelle, Marietta, Georgia; nephews: Rodney (Myrna) Thompson, Memphis, Tennessee, Michael (Debra) Thompson, Pooler, Georgia; Hubert (Kennise) Thompson, Pooler, Georgia; Timothy (Christella) Thompson, Baltimore, Maryland; Lanell (Anita) Thompson, Mound Bayou, Mississippi, Derek Walker, Chicago, Illinois, Darnell Walker, Romeoville, Illinois and her only niece LaRae Nichols, Chicago, Illinois; a grand-daughter Tiwanna Burns, Atlanta, Georgia and great-grandson Damarius Thornton, US Army currently assigned in Korea; a host of great-nieces and nephews; her dedicated caretakers Renee Stanley, Sabrina Riley, Ruth Hawkins, and very dear friends, family and Pastor Ralph.
