Vera Zentner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fisher Funeral Home - Denison on Mar. 27, 2026.
Vera Ellen Zentner ("Pete")

(1934-2026)

Vera Ellen Zentner ("Pete"), a beloved sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on March 26, 2026, at the age of 91 in Bells, Texas. Her loss leaves a space in her family's lives that cannot be filled.

Born on September 30, 1934, in Wilburton, Oklahoma, Vera was the daughter of Raymond and Daisy Glenn. She grew up alongside four siblings, forming strong family bonds that stayed with her throughout her life.

Vera shared many adventures with her late husband, Bud, during his time in the Air Force. Together, they lived in various places around the world. One of her most treasured memories was spending two years in Guam with her husband and daughter, Debbie. Though she wasn't particularly fond of the water, she loved exploring the island and collecting seashells.

Many people knew her as "Mama Pete" or "Ms. Pete" from her years working at the front door of Calhoun's. During that time, she met countless musicians-many of whom later became famous-and she loved sharing stories about those encounters. The friendships she built there meant a great deal to her.

Vera found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved cooking, canning, and making Christmas candy with her family. It didn't take much to make her happy, though she especially enjoyed winning a "few" bucks at the casinos now and then.

She had a generous soul that was always ready to lend a helping hand or go the extra mile for someone in need. Vera wasn't focused on material things-she valued people most of all, especially her family. She loved others for who they were, and her love for her family was truly unconditional. Vera took special joy in being a grandmother, she spent many hours attending ball games, livestock shows and always celebrating her grandchildren's milestones with joy and enthusiasm.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Donnie Lee Baggs; her second husband, Geltz ("Bud") Zentner; her son, Jerry Don Baggs; her brothers, Donald Glenn and Roger Glenn; and her sister, Helen Pinion.

She is survived by her sister, Fonda Cassell of Ambrose, Texas; her son, Randy Baggs of Gunter, Texas; and her daughter, Debbie (Baggs) Richards and husband Paul Richards of Bells, Texas. She also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Jamie and Ashley Baggs of Muenster, Texas; Maranda Florendo of Bells, Texas; Britney and Matt Hubbard of Sherman, Texas; Paul Richards of Bells, Texas; and Ellen Richards of Dallas, Texas. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren-Colton Wright, Brody Baggs, Avery Baggs, and Harrison Hubbard-as well as many nieces and nephews, all of whom brought light to her life.

A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1st, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Fisher Funeral Home in Denison, Texas.
