Verla Burbey Obituary

Verla Mae Burbey, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 3, 2024, at the age of 95 in Milwaukee, WI. Born on May 1, 1929, in St. Cloud, MN, Verla's life was a tapestry of devotion to her family, a testament to her intelligence, and a reflection of her unwavering spirit.
Verla was the heart of a loving family. She was the cherished wife of the late Norbert Burbey, with whom she shared 64 years of memories and a deep, abiding love. Together, they raised six sons, instilling in them the values of hard work, compassion, and resilience. Verla's legacy continues through her family; sons Thomas (Lisa), Gregory (Diane), Robert (Karen), Kenneth (Cass) and Patrick, her 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, as well as daughters-in-law Rita Burbey, Kolleen Korom and Donna Burbey. She was predeceased by her brother Kenneth Bohnen, son Richard Burbey, daughter-in-law Pam Burbey, daughter-in-law Kathy Burbey, and her great-granddaughter Sadie Buckner.
In her earlier life, Verla worked for many years as a beautician, all the while raising her 6 sons. An avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers, Verla bled the colors of her favorite teams. She could often be found cheering them on, a testament to her enduring spirit and love for the game. Verla's interests extended beyond the roar of stadiums; she found solace and joy in the simple pleasure of fishing from the pier on Wind Lake with Norb, where the tranquility of nature was a source of constant renewal.
Verla's hands were rarely still, as she found immense joy in knitting and crocheting. Each stitch was a symbol of her love, and she gifted countless pieces to those she held dear, wrapping her loved ones in the warmth of her affection. She also gifted many pieces to charity.
Described by those who knew her as loving, kind, and intelligent, Verla's impact on the world was immeasurable. She approached life with a gentle wisdom and an open heart, qualities that endeared her to many and made her a treasured friend, neighbor, and confidant.
As Verla Mae Burbey's chapter on earth closes, we reflect on a life well-lived and a legacy of love that will endure. She was a guiding light, a source of strength, and a gentle soul who will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Verla's memory will continue to inspire and comfort us, reminding us of the beauty of a life filled with love, kindness, and grace.
We bid farewell to Verla, not with sorrow, but with gratitude for the time we shared and the lessons she taught us through her example. Her spirit will remain a cherished memory in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who were touched by her extraordinary life. Rest in peace, dear Verla, until we meet again.
A celebration of Verla's life is being planned for the near future. Private interment along with her beloved Norbert at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memeorial Cemetery.
