Verlan D. "Bud" Wray, age 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, February 9, 2025, at his home in Morgantown.
Born in Franklin on March 9, 1940, to the late Jessie B. and Ollie B. (Lutes) Wray, Verlan was a 1958 graduate of Franklin High School. He retired in 1999 after more than 45 years as a Project Engineer at Arvin Industries in Franklin. Following his retirement, he continued to work as a Project Engineer Consultant. Bud was a dedicated member and a former Deacon of the Bargersville First Christian Church.
In the 1970s and 80s, he served as a Fireman/EMT with the Bargersville Volunteer Fire Department and later served on the Bargersville Town Board for over 15 years. Outside of work and public service, Bud had a passion for woodworking, traveling, and camping with his wife, Kay, and their children. He loved reading historical fiction and old western novels and found joy in watching how-to videos on YouTube. His greatest love was his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sharell Floyd and Karen Knapp.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Kay L. (Satter) Wray, whom he married on December 2, 1960, in Franklin. He is also survived by his children, Debi (Renee Bradley) Wray of Tecumseh, MI, Betsy (Mike) Spratt of Nineveh and Steve (Mary) Wray of Trafalgar; grandchildren, Katie (Phil) DeMonaco of Rochester Hills, MI, Ian (Lauren Fuller) Marlow of Bend, OR, Kyle (Grace) Spratt of College Park, MD, Nathan and Marc Spratt both of Salt Lake City, UT, Jessica (Eric) Bradner of Chicago, IL & Evan Wray of Trafalgar; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Maverick & Charlotte; and several nieces.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown, with the Rev. Dustin Hite officiating. Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at East Hill Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Bargersville First Christian Church, 101 East Street, Bargersville, IN 46106.
