Verna Fay Bowen

Verna Fay Davis Bowen passed away on February 12, 2023 in Orange Park, FL. She was born on February 20, 1949 in Jamaica, West Indies to, late Whilemina Pearl Buckley and Ashley Davis.
She grew up in Jamaica with her older brother, Lyndon Davis, whom she loved. Verna graduated from high school and pursued her love of dancing and modeling. She moved to the United Stated in the early 1970's with the assistance of her mother and soon found a job working as a telephone operator at Bell Atlantic in New York City. Verna met a multitude of people including Jacqueline Shand who became a great friend and later a godmother to her first-born child. She retired after 20 years from Bell Atlantic.
Verna raised four children, Dawnell, Darron, Andrew and Zaneta. She always encouraged her children to excel in their studies and pursue their goals and dreams. Verna was very close to her grandchildren, especially her first granddaughter, Kayla, whom she essentially helped raise. She was devoted to helping her family in any way that she could. Verna was always available for prayer and to give them counseling.
Toward her later years, she moved to Georgia to be closer to her sister, Joan Davis and brother, Lyndon. She loved being close to her family and thrived while living in GA. She also built a close connection to her niece, Judith Brown and her children, spending many holidays together.
She decided to move to Jacksonville, FL to help her youngest son and his daughters. Verna loved living in the sunny state and stated she would never go back to living in cold New York. While in Jacksonville, she developed a deeper love for God and became a devoted Christian. She loved sharing her love for God with family and friends.
Verna leaves to cherish her memory, loving children, Dawnell, Darron, Andrew and Zaneta; five beautiful granddaughters, Kayla, Lailai, Hannah, Mary and Amani. She will be greatly missed by her sister, Joan Davis; brother, Lyndon Davis and a host of dearly loved nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
