Verna McClenny Jones passed away February 8, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Jean and Fate McClenny of Carrsville, VA. She is also predeceased by her brother, Mac McClenny, and son-in-law, Tracy Carr.
Verna was valedictorian of WHS class of 1969. She was a Suma Cum Laude graduate from Radford University in 1972. She then earned her master's degree in education at ODU to pursue a career as an educator and administrator for the Isle of Wight County school district. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Windsor Women's Club. Verna loved her grandchildren, the beach, and reading.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Thomas Jones; daughter, Candice Carr; son, James Robert Jones (Megan); 4 grandchildren, Melissa Carr, Tiffany Carr, Thomas Jones, and Sadie Jones; brother, Joe McClenny (Cindy) of Texas; and sisters, Paula Griffiths (Dave) of Norfolk, VA, and Margaret Harrell (Wayne) of Maryville, TN.
A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at Shiloh Cemetery, 13459 Shiloh Drive, Windsor, VA. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 PM Monday, February 12, 2024 at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Downtown Suffolk Chapel. Condolences may be registered at RWBakerFH.com.
