Verna was born at home in rural Warren, MN to Frank Paul Magnusson and Agnes Katherine Rodegaard Magnusson.

She was baptized, confirmed and married at Alma Lutheran Church in Argyle, MN. She attended the Carlson Elementary School (a single-room school house) and graduated from Argyle High School.

Verna married Earle Barney Hanson on August 8, 1949. They had 4 children; Bob, Barbara, Kathy and Wayne.  In their early married life they lived in a trailer home and traveled around Montana, North and South Dakota and Minnesota, where Earle worked building grain elevators. In 1958 they moved to Salt Lake and purchased a home in Rose Park. Verna was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Zion Lutheran Church until the time of her death.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Earle, daughter-in-law Lorena, all siblings and their spouses except for a younger sister. Survived by her children Bob (Chris), Barbara (Bill), Kathy (Mike), Wayne, 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, sister Avis, cousin Mavis, and many nieces and nephews.

Many thanks to her friends in Rose Park, at Zion Lutheran and at Highland Cove in both The Lane and The Hotel. Also thanks to the caretakers at Highland Cove and Inspiration Hospice.

Verna showed her love by baking and crocheting! Her chocolate chip cookies are delicious. She crocheted afghans for her kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren (at their birth and for their 10th birthday) until she was not able to crochet any more. Thank you to Josslyn Hanson who has vowed to carry on this tradition.

Verna loved to send (and receive) cards! Special thanks to those who remembered her with cards, especially Mary Applegate and David and Jan Chamberlain. Please send someone a card in her honor. She always said, "It makes people feel good to be remembered."

A graveside service will be held in the future. She will be interred with Earle at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
