Verna L. McDermott

Verna L. McDermott, age 93 of Harwick and formerly of Penn Hills, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Wednesday March 11, 2026. She was the daughter of the late Gayle and George Young. Beloved wife of the late Joseph P. McDermott, Sr. Loving mother Susan (Raymond) Milewski, Verna (Steven) Budz, the late Robert McDermott, the late Joseph P. McDermott, Jr., and the late Michael (surviving Lori) McDermott. Grandmother of Jessica (Corey), Drew, Jaqueline, Matthew (Kayleigh), and Joshua (Lindzee). Great-grandmother of Elizabeth. Preceded in death by four siblings.

In her earlier years, Verna worked as a waitress at Alcoma Country Club. She was "all about family", and was a caregiver to her husband, sons, and those around her. 

She strived independently from her heart and soul living her life to the fullest; with her strength being her family and compassion of caretaking others along the way.

Friends and family will be received on Monday March 16, 2026, from 2-6:30 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., at 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont PA 15139. A funeral service will be held the following day, Tuesday March 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.

Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery next to her husband and sons.
