Vernon Bryson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Amling - Schroeder Funeral Service - Coquille Chapel on Jan. 22, 2026.
Vernon (Butch) Bryson, Jr. was born on July 15, 1949, in Eugene and died on January 17, 2026, after a long battle with cancer in Coquille, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Bryson Sr and Mabel Whisler as well as his brother, Milton (Mick) Bryson and grandson Ryan Bryson.

He married his high school sweetheart Sherry Cope in 1966, and they graduated from Thurston High School in 1967. Together they raised two sons: Russell Bryson and Ryan Bryson. As the boys grew, Butch loved attending their athletic events. Family events were enjoyed at Triangle Lake and hunting in eastern Oregon. Butch opened and expanded the Wonder Bread franchise throughout Roseburg and eventually became fountain manager for Pepsi Cola Bottling Company.

In 1995 he fell in love with his soulmate Elaine DeBoard and together they lived their dreams: camping and trail riding with their horses Danny and Token, competing at games and state posse shows, building a small craft business called Circle Bar Creations, all the while renovating their ranch in North Bend. During this time, Butch adopted into his heart Elaine's daughters, Lauren and Jennifer as well as Elaine's student Brianne. Later, Butch especially relished the times he rode his beloved Mare along the Oregon coast with his friends Larry and Bridget McStravog.

In 2002 he resigned from Pepsi and pursued several other career opportunities. He received his Associate's Degree in criminal justice through Southwestern Oregon Community College in 2008 and discovered a love of reading, especially novels by
C.J. Box. He was a past member of the Coos County Mounted Sheriff's Posse rising to the rank of Captain, a member of the Coos County Rodeo Committee, and at the time of his death a member of the Coquille Fraternal Order of Eagles serving as vice president.

Butch is survived by his wife Elaine, sons Russell and Ryan, daughters Lauren and Jennifer, grandchildren Tabitha, Colton, Kai, Rhett, Frankie, Cassidy, Allison, Jake and Kody and numerous great grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date at the Storts' ranch.
