Vernon "Vern" L. Crain, 74, of Kewanee, passed away Friday, October 10, 2025, at his home. Vern was born on June 25, 1951, in rural Kewanee, the son of William "Jack", Sr. and Maggie (Edwards) Crain. Vern attended and graduated from Kewanee High School with the class of 1968.
Vern is survived by his life partner of 46 years, Peggy A. Young, Kewanee; children, Raymond (Anna) Young, San Diego, CA, Donetta Mercer, Kewanee, Michele Young, Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Jack Young and Jovanna Young; four great grandchildren, AlexZander Smith, LillyAnn Smith, Avery Smith, Olivia Murphy; a nephew, Chris (Annie) Crain, Seguin, TX; and a friend of the family, Jack Peed.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters; Martha, Edith, Dorothy, Nellie, and Beulah; five brothers; Joe, Robert, John, Raymond, William, Jr.; granddaughter, Katelyn Murphy; son-in-law, Lloyd "Bud" Mercer; and a nephew, Billy Self.
Vern served in the United States Navy for four years, where he was stationed in Japan during the Vietnam War. He worked in the assembly line and fabrication shop at Pines/Great Dane for 30+ years. He enjoyed fishing and going to the River Boat. Vern also enjoyed watching TV with Peggy after he retired. He had a great sense of humor; Vern loved cracking jokes.
